Editing Your Audience Avatar
What is an Audience Avatar?
An Audience Avatar is Subscribr's representation of who watches your content. It includes demographics, interests, knowledge level, and other important audience characteristics that help Subscribr create scripts tailored specifically to engage your viewers.
Your audience avatar influences:
- The structure and content of your scripts
- The video ideas generated by Ideation Chat and Channel Insights
Having an accurate audience avatar is crucial for creating scripts that resonate with your viewers and keep them watching.
Why Edit Your Audience Avatar?
There are several reasons you might want to edit your audience avatar:
- Fine-Tuning: Your automatically generated avatar is close but needs some adjustments to better match your actual audience.
- Audience Evolution: Your channel's audience has changed over time, and you want your scripts to reflect this shift.
- Targeting a Segment: You want to create content for a specific subset of your audience rather than your general viewership.
- New Direction: You're pivoting your channel to appeal to a different audience than your current content targets.
- More Specificity: The automatically generated audience profile is too general, and you want to add more detailed characteristics.

Best Practices for Editing Your Audience Avatar
Be Specific
The more detailed your audience avatar, the better Subscribr can tailor scripts to engage your viewers. Instead of "people interested in technology," specify "early-career software developers looking to advance to senior positions, who prefer practical tutorials over theoretical concepts."
Consider Platform Data
If your channel is linked to YouTube, review your YouTube Analytics to understand who actually watches your content. Age demographics, geography, and watch time patterns can reveal important insights about your audience.
Focus on Motivations
Beyond demographics, understanding why your audience watches your content is crucial. Are they looking to solve problems? Learn new skills? Be entertained? Including these motivations in your audience avatar helps Subscribr create more engaging scripts.
Update Regularly
As your channel grows, your audience often evolves. Schedule regular reviews of your audience avatar every few months to ensure it still accurately represents your viewers.
Refreshing Your Audience Avatar
If you've linked your channel to YouTube and want to generate a completely new audience avatar based on your latest content:
- Go to your channel's Audience page
- Click the Actions button
- Select Refresh Audience
This will analyze your channel's current content and create a fresh audience avatar, discarding any previous edits. Use this option when your content has significantly evolved or you've published many new videos since your last audience generation.
